This course is designed for the Computer Operator or Trainee Programmer/Analyst.

Prerequisites

The course is aimed at a basic level, introducing all concepts from scratch. The student will benefit most from this course if they have a reasonable grasp of data set allocation and are familiar with editing data sets.

Objectives

This course is designed to introduce the student to the Data Set List Utility. The modules teach the students how to find data sets by the use of wildcards, and issue commands against the data sets to display and understand the data set and VTOC information.

Module 1 Listing Information with the ISPF Data Set List Utility

Display a data set based on -

  • High Level Qualifiers.
  • Volume.
  • Using wildcards.
  • Display all the information available within a Data Set Listing.
  • Use the following commands against a Data Set.
  • Delete.
  • Rename.
  • List Data Set Information.
  • Compress.
  • Free.
  • Member List.

Module 2 Working with the ISPF Data Set List Utility
  • How to issue TSO Commands against a data set.
  • How to repeat a command in a data set list.
  • What a VTOC is.
  • How to display a VTOC.
  • The fields in a VTOC display.
  • The role of a DCSB.
  • How to set the Initial View.
  • All the fields in the Data Set List display.
