Audience

This course is designed for the Computer Operator or Trainee Programmer/Analyst.

Prerequisites

The course is aimed at a basic level, introducing all concepts from scratch. The student will benefit most from this course if they have a reasonable grasp of what a data set is, and are familiar with editing data sets.

Objectives

  • This course will introduce the student to the Library and Data Set Utility Menus. The modules teach the students how to manipulate data sets and members, both with the ISPF options and via TSO commands.

  • How to display data set attributes.
  • How to allocate a data set.
  • The parameters involved in data set allocation.
  • ISPF Edit
  • How to copy or move a data set member from -
    • Within the source data set.
    • From another data set.
  • The use of the CREATE and REPLACE commands.

Module 2 ISPF Library Utilities
  • Compressing a data set.
  • Printing a data set/index listing.
  • Renaming a data set.
  • Deleting a data set.
  • Viewing/Editing a data set.
  • Use of SDSF to display the printed output.

Module 3 Allocating Data Sets with TSO
  • Why a data set needs to be allocated to TSO.
  • How to allocate a data set with TSO Commands.
  • The Allocation parameters.
  • How to FREE a data set.
  • How to list data set allocations.
