Audience

This course is designed to introduce the Computer Operator or Trainee Programmer/Analyst student to the concept of TSO.

Prerequisites

The course is aimed at a basic level, introducing all concepts from scratch.

Objectives

After completing this course, the student should be able to:
  • Understand the basic functions of editing a data set, how the PF Keys work to assist the TSO user, and some basic TSO Commands to reinforce how TSO is used from within ISPF.

Module 1 Introduction to ISPF and ISPF EDIT - Line Commands
  • The function of ISPF.
  • The TSO logon procedure.
  • The ISPF Menu system.
  • How to access and use the ISPF data set Edit function.
  • How to edit a specific data set.
  • How to use the PF keys to navigate within the edit session.
  • The scroll function.
  • How to insert and delete data.

Module 2 ISPF Edit - Save, Cancel and Block Commands
  • Save
  • Cancel
  • ISPF Edit - Copy, Move, Repeat and the use of these commands in a block format.

Module 3 ISPF Edit Profiles
  • How to display and change ISPF Edit Profiles.
  • Basic ISPF Edit Profile parameters.
  • How to override the default profile settings.
  • How to save changes to an Edit Profile.
  • Why some ISPF Profile settings can be automatically changed.

Module 4 ISPF Settings and PF Keys
  • An understanding of the ISPF Setting Menu.
  • The ability to display the current PF Key settings.
  • The ability to change PF keys.

Module 5 Basic TSO Commands
  • What TSO is.
  • How TSO and ISPF fit together.
  • How to issue TSO commands.
  • The TSO commands - LISTCAT, LISTDS, RENAME
